View as we approach Mauna Kea.  The rough lava flow is called a'a.Old cinder cones. The peak is 13,789 feet.View from entrance to visitor center.  Elevation 9,300 feet.the grounds around the visitor center.the grounds around the visitor center.Telescopes are put out for public viewing in evening.  Saw Jupitor & the moon.We joined the tour of the observatories. Had to drive own 4-wheel drive vehicle to top in a caravan.As the elevation increases, the plant life decreases.
